Cross: For cross training, choose any activity other than running. You could do swimming, cycling, walking/hiking. Don’t make the mistake of cross-training too vigorously. Cross-training days should be considered easy days that allow you to recover from the running you do the rest of the week
Strength: Mondays are the days following your long run on the weekends, so don’t overdo it. Strength training could consist of push-ups, pull-ups, use of free weights or working out with various machines at a fitness center. Runners generally benefit if they combine light weights with a high number of repetitions, rather than using heavy weights

San Jose Marathon Training – 25 Sep 2010

Rock & Roll San Jose Marathon:
HM – 8-9 Miles @ 730AM @ Coyote Hills.
First of all congrats to all Rock and Rollers for having completed 13 miles training . Thanks to our seasoned runners Lenin, Kumar and Daya who joined us and gave us encouragement and support during the max training miles.
Now we need to taper down the running miles and give rest to our legs for the big day. I welcome all the experienced TEAM runners to drop by this weekend , run few miles and provide the SJC runners with any valuable experiences.
Please note the change in the start time it will be 730AM to align with the actual start of SJC marathon. We will run 8-9 miles this weekend which will be the last group training session for SJC marathon and also the last TEAM’s training session for the year 2010.
Meeting Point: Parking lot shown in the map below (intersection of Commerce Dr and Paseo Padre).

Rock and Rollers will be moving to a dozen miles. Have a good dinner loaded with carbohydrates like pasta, white rice or brown rice.This will have some rolling hills so expect a 10% increase than your average time to complete the course.
