TEAM – Its about $ 10.

What can $10 a month do for you? Might be a haircut or Might be a lunch! It is an answer from the most! But..We know of some people who are getting more out of $10 Their real action inspired us a lot and We too joined hands with them. Just go through this article and it might inspire you too. If you are interested, just let us know! Contacts above!!

- It all started back in the year 2000.
- When 10 people joined together and collected $10 from each.
- $100 was collected and they wanted to spend that money productively.
- They found $100 was less, so they contacted 10 of their very close friends.
- Now 10 * 10 = 100, they all contributed $10 each and collected $1000.
- Discussions and debates went on; finally they decided to help two poor
elementary schools by giving $500 each.
- Perfectly worked! Two projects were executed with zero overheads.

- Those 100 friends were truly motivated by the response they received from the School, school kids and their parents.

- They continued their good work by contributing the same $10 a month and executed projects for that entire year.

- In a year, they had helped 24 schools and had donated 12 thousand Dollars! Just with $10 a month! Really amazing!

- No overheads as all the projects were executed through their family and friends back in their native.

- You know what? Their systematic approach motivated lots of people to join hands with them in the year 2001.

- Then they launched a non-profit organization called TEAM – http://www.IndiaTEAM.org to deliver effectively.

- Right now 1000 members are part of this family they all put in the same $10 a month and generate 10 thousand Dollars per month.

- These 10K is used to equip 20 schools a month and 240 schools a year!

- Their action does not stop here!So far 600 schools were helped!

- They are growing exponentially and renovating schools efficiently with
zero overheads!

- Great achievement! What more can we achieve than helping 600 schools with just $10 a month?

- We were impressed and now we are helping our native school through TEAM!

- Let us know, if you are interested in helping your native school or any school of your choice.

TEAM – Its run by TeamSoft.

TEAM a non profitable organization formed to improve education in motherland was started by a small team of friends and all activities were done on a small-scale basis. There again there was dedication, commitment and hard work, but no organized way to carry out the work in a planned and systematic manner. As the group started growing, its members and activities increased and the organization could not be run just like that in a haphazard manner. More of systematic approach was needed and this needed break was got in Jan 2003 through Team–web.

Team–Web, built the software called Team soft. Team soft is an object that drives everything. Now, TEAM runs smoothly, effectively and with almost zero error in the data with the help of Team soft. Hats off to Team soft for making TEAM an organization with corporate level strateg management. One individual did not build team soft on one day. It evolved through a lot of hard work, dedication and true team effort put in by Srini, Karthik, Vimala and Sakthivel Muthusamy. The mentor to co-ordinate and bring everything into effect was Kumar Rethi. He designed, developed and delivered with the help of his team–web members. Kumar Rethi deserves appreciation and applause for all his effort and co- ordination. Team – web is proud to have him as a CTO of TEAM. And of course TEAM as a whole is proud to have Kumar Rethi, a vibrant spirit as part of it. His guidance and inspiration makes TEAM strong. Kumar Rethi u very well deserves to get all praises. Thanks to team – web for building the needed infrastructure for TEAM and raising its level performance and image.

TEAM – It is unique.

TEAM a 100% non – profitable organization, registered in California, USA is formed to improve education in motherland. When you hear the word non-profit organization you might all think, oh! one more to go with like CRY. Some might also think, these non-profit organizations actually don’t do much, they are all started by a group of people who want to attribute something to the society and as days pass by, in this busy world everything is forgotten and these organizations end up nowhere. But there are a few organizations, which make a mark and are completely different.

People when they live away from homeland; they miss friends, family and community in general. When you come across your native people you remember your country and feel happy that you can talk in the same language, discuss common things and you automatically feel a sense of bonding and togetherness. That is why in foreign lands get-togethers are so common, where u can mix with your own native people and talk all that you miss from being away from your country.

During one such get-together Abirami, realized that people here are not talking about Indian politics, movies, clothes and the food that is being served there. She heard things like schools.…funds….projects. This raised curiosity in her and made her wonder what these people are upto.

Then she understood that this group of her friends where different and as the topic started heating up she came to know that they were talking about the welfare and upliftment of the children and their education back home in India. These friends, with their great vision and enthusiasm, were in full action, collecting funds and donating material goods for under privileged schools in the villages of our motherland. That day she decided to be a part of it and joined hands with these friends to do something for the children and schools in her motherland.

Nowadays it is not the friends chit chat conversation nor the food that excites her and makes her go for theses social gatherings, but she looks forward to this bigger gathering, as a proud member of TEAM and deep inside her heart, she has the satisfied feeling of having accomplished and accomplishing something noteworthy and great.

As human beings we always have a carving in our heart to contribute to the society that helped us grow. India mainly consists of villages even today. Many successful people today come from the villages where they had to struggle much to strive and succeed in life. A set of individuals joined hands and decided to do something for the society in which they grew up. They wanted to help today’s younger generation in the villages get all the facilities and amenities to study, which they themselves could not get when they were young.

Thus was born TEAM, an organization launched by NRI’s in the year 2000, who wanted the students in rural India have a better life and a comfortable environment to study and be motivated to pursue their studies, by providing basic amenities to poor elementary schools. Karthikeyan Eswaramoorthy, native of Erode in Tamil Nadu, who works as a software engineer in California, was instrumental in launching TEAM.

They could have very well contributed the amount they are willing to spend for the betterment of society towards some non- profit organization, but instead they wanted to start an organization on their own, because they wanted to carry out the work themselves. In TEAM you are not only donating the money but you can personally take care of the needs of the school children and see how the money is being used and can use it to a school of your choice. Each member is responsible for the proper utilization of the funds and fulfilling of the dreams of TEAM. This is, were TEAM differs from other organization.

TEAM’s vision is to lift society by education. Lack of basic amenities hinders education in several Government schools in India. There are no benches, desks or even blackboards in many of these schools. TEAM’s effort is to reach out to these schools to make their study environment better and thus to encourage the children.

Each TEAM member contributes $10 every month. The members then select the schools where they want to execute the project. Every quarter, a few members are selected by lots to be coordinators to execute projects of their choice. Each project receives $500 from the TEAM. The member usually chooses a school with the help of relatives and friends who live in India. The person in India interacts with the headmaster to assess the needs of the school and implements the project based on the funds allotted

Once the project is completed, the project executors take photos or videos and along with the receipt submit it to TEAM. TEAM also receives thank you notes from Headmaster, teacher and Parents. Which is very encouraging and motivating the team members to do more such projects.

It is always not the pictures of completed projects that make the TEAM members feel satisfied and happy. When these TEAM members go back home, they make sure to go and see the school where their project was implemented by their family members and they interact with the school children and the local people and get the real feel of it.

One of the TEAM member visited a school in erode district where TEAM had donated some benches and desks. He asked one of the students how she felt about having new benches and desks. The young girl replied, that prior to having the benches and desks, the wounds she used to get while playing took a long time to heal as they abraded with the rough floor when they sat down for their classes. Now, they heal very fast. The TEAM member says he had never thought of anything like that. When it came from a young kid studying in the third standard, it really moved him and many members in the TEAM have experienced incidents like this.

It is not only the members but also the people executing the projects are happy. One of the TEAM members chose to help a blind school. The TEAM member’s brother executed the project and he was asked to preside as a chief guest on Independence Day and hoist the flag, this honor really touched him and made him feel proud of TEAM.

TEAM has executed projects in over 225 schools in India. Most of these schools are in rural Tamil Nadu. Efforts are on to strengthen TEAM’s activities in other parts of the country. From a modest beginning of 11 members, TEAM now has over 900 members with chapters in the Bay Area, Chicago, and in India. Discussions have been initiated to launch chapters in Brunei, Singapore and Australia. More members, more projects is TEAM’s logic.

To prevent pilfering, most items donated have the words “Donated by TEAM” or something to that effect stamped on them. The donated items are entered in the school’s registry, so that TEAM’s contribution is registered and the items remain with the school. TEAM members have not only provided with benches, desks and blackboards but members have done different things—erect a compound wall to keep livestock from wandering in, install a water tank, build lavatory, etc. The more remote the school, the less facilities it has and depending on the school the TEAM members make the decision as to what to be done for the school.

TEAM has now grown big enough to merit a formal organizational structure. TEAM has a chairman, president of each chapter who is responsible for the overall growth and promotional activities, and a secretary in charge of maintaining existing activities. There is also a treasurer and a financial coordinator for each batch. A board of about 10 directors is selected randomly from interested members. However, these office bearers are rotated every two years to tap the large pool of leadership talent within the organization and so that no one person dominates.

Members also take ownership by volunteering for various groups; such as TEAM Soft, the group that maintains the software. TEAM Promotion, the group in charge of promotional activities, this group now for the past two years have arranged a TEAM walk in Bay area, to raise awareness about TEAM. Another group of volunteers arranges food for the meetings, and entertainment like song and dance programs. This involvement of members at all levels has helped TEAM retain its informal and friendly atmosphere even as the organization grows in numbers and TEAM is no more a get-together at a park.

Not having family where the TEAM members wish to execute a project is sometimes a problem for TEAM members. That’s where the India chapter of TEAM lends a hand.

The India chapter of TEAM consists mostly of members who have moved back from the United States to India. They still want to contribute to TEAM though the donations come mainly from the United States. Indian members are in the valuable position of being able to actually oversee and implement projects in India. Arun Kumar Athiappan, director of the India chapter, coordinates activities between India and the United States.

TEAM now plans to expand its activities. The first thing they want to do is to adopt a school, which would mean more than a one-time contribution by TEAM for that school. The India Chapter has started the first adoption project at an elementary school in the Periyapudhur village of Salem District in Tamil Nadu.

Then, TEAM’s aim is to build a community center where villagers can access information about agriculture, students can get admission forms, and a library—all to increase education and awareness amongst rural folk. The plans are still in the formative stage. The chairman Karthikeyan Easwaramoorthy says, “Doing is the solution to any problem.” And his vision is to build TEAM all over the world.

More than the monetary contribution, the personal involvement of the members is the driving factor of TEAM and the greatest motivation to join TEAM. This personal involvement is the success and difference of TEAM.

TEAM – Its faceless

TEAM – Its faceless

TEAM a four-letter word, is the mantra in today’s world to achieve success. When we step into any organization we could find them all working as teams. In sports world were a group of people play together to win, they are all called us a TEAM and not us a group, reason everybody has an important role to play in winning the game. The success or victory is attributed to the entire TEAM in winning the game. So I guess u would agree that it is right on our part to select the name TEAM to this organization, which is run by the concept called FACELESS. It means no individual is put up in the front seat always. No individual face will be attached with TEAM. TEAM’s activities are united, jointly performed by all the members. If someone thinks about TEAM, individual’s names should not stand in front. This is called faceless! Any faceless organization like TEAM has all its members as forerunners and no single person is singled out. For the success and achieving the goals and objectives of TEAM we need many members to join hand and work together as front-runners. TEAM is trying it level best to bring as many members as possible as front-runners.

As an example to this, each time different volunteers conduct TEAM meets with the help of other individuals. Each year many individuals are being a part of TEAM and we want to run TEAM by involving many more individuals. We want everyone to feel his or her ownership of TEAM. When everyone feels his or her ownership the dedication and hard work is more. They feel they are working for themselves and not for a third person. The satisfaction and happiness they derive out of this is also immense. They have the feeling that they are responsible for each and every activity that is happening through TEAM. This is the success key of TEAM!

TEAM – Its Vision!

EAM’s vision = “LIFT SOCIETY BY UPLIFTING EDUCATION”

How did TEAM come up with this vision? and Where did debate start in TEAM?
TEAM Vision history – By Tamaraiselvan

Karthikeyan Easwaramoorthy made a statement, in the last TEAM meet, which raised the eyebrows of many people present in the meet. The statement is “TEAM doesn’t have a Vision”. Some even tried to defend that TEAM does have a vision and some just mumble among themselves after hearing this.Let us forget what happened that day, Let us take it as a question and ask this question to all the Members of TEAM.What is TEAM’s Vision?I am sure we will get 40 different answers. Yes, There is a Vision, but it is not well defined. Everybody defines the vision as how they have understood TEAM.

There is this popular story, which I would like to share with u all to ascertain my statement above. There were these four blind people, who all wanted to know how an elephant would look like. They asked one guy to get them near an elephant so they can feel it and imagine its look. He took them to an elephant. One guy felt it’s leg and told, elephant should be like a big tree; Second guy felt its body and told, elephant should be like a big rock; Third guy felt its tusk and told, elephant should be like a big steel rod; the fourth guy felt its trunk and told, “No.. No.. It’s like a big Snake. In the same manner every member of TEAM is defining the vision of TEAM in the manner he or she has understood TEAM to be. What every member has perceived it to be are all part of TEAM’s vision. Vision has to be one clearly defined statement, which all its member has to adhere to and work together to achieve it.

To arrive at the vision statement all members of TEAM has to put forward what they think TEAM to be. Then from it we could conclude the one vision statement. Vision is the elephant here once everyone puts forward what they see in TEAM we could finally figure out the elephant. The following is what I feel that many perceive TEAM to be… We are trying to do some thing with education. What are the ways to do it?

1. Build a school fully equipped, make a quality education free for selected low privileged people.

2. Support the low privileged, high talented students for their education.

3. Support the under privileged institution

Here, the student is low privileged, but we don’t know his talents. We try to improve the infrastructure. We feel every student is equal and deserve a quality school and quality education. So I would conclude the vision of TEAM to be Quality Education.Does your vision reflect this? If not it’s time to perfect it. So, now that I have stated, what part I saw in the big elephant, let everybody state him or herself, then we can figure out the elephant.

Now the whole lots of discussion happened within TEAM and found the big elephant, I mean TEAM’s vision as “LIFT SOCIETY BY UPLIFTING EDUCATION”

TEAM – Its Leadership.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of people in the world. One type is known as leaders, and the other as followers. Decide at the outset whether you intend to become a leader in your chosen calling, or remain a follower. The difference in compensation is vast. The follower cannot reasonably expect the compensation to which a leader is entitled, although many followers make the mistake of expecting such pay.

It is no disgrace to be a follower. On the other hand, it is no credit to remain a follower. Most great leaders began in the capacity of followers. They become great leaders because they were intelligent followers. With few exceptions the man who cannot follow a leader intelligently cannot become an efficient leader. The man, who can follow a leader most efficiently, is usually the man who develops into leadership most rapidly. An intelligent follower has many advantages, among them the opportunity to acquire knowledge from his leader.

The Major attributes of Leadership: -

1.Unwavering Courage based upon knowledge of self, and of one’s occupation. No follower wishes to be dominated by a leader who lacks self-confidence and courage.

No intelligent follower will be dominated by such a leader very long.

2.Self-Control.The man who cannot control himself can never control others. Self-control sets a mighty example, for one’s followers, which the more intelligent will emulate.

3.A keen sense of justice. Without a sense of fairness and justice, no leader can command and retain the respect of his followers

4.Definiteness of decision. The man who wavers in his decisions, shows that he is not sure of himself, cannot lead others successfully.

5.Definiteness of Plans. The successful leader must plan his work, and work his plan. A leader, who moves by guesswork, without practical, definite plans, is comparable to a ship without a rudder. Sooner or later he will land on the rocks.

6.The habit of doing more than paid for. One of the penalties of leadership is the necessity of willingness, upon the part of the leader, to do more than he requires of his followers.

7.A pleasing personality. No slovenly, careless person can become a successful leader. Leadership calls for respect. Followers will not respect a leader who does not grade high on all of the factors of a pleasing personality.

8.Sympathy and understanding. The successful leader must be in sympathy with his followers. Moreover, he must understand them and their problems.

9.Mastery of detail. Successful leadership calls for mastery of the details of the leader’s position.

10.Willingness to assume full responsibility. The successful leader must be willing to assume responsibility for the mistakes and the shortcomings of his followers. If he tries to shift this responsibility, he will not remain the leader. If one of his followers, makes a mistake, and shows himself incompetent, the leader must consider that it is he who failed.

11.Cooperation.The successful leader must understand and apply the principle of cooperative effort and be able to induce his followers to do the same. Leadership calls for power, and power calls for cooperation.

There are two forms of leadership. The first, and by far the most effective, is leadership by consent of, and with the sympathy of the followers. The second is leadership by force, without the consent and sympathy of the followers.

History is filled with evidences that leadership by force cannot endure. The downfall and disappearance of dictators and kings is significant. It means that people will not follow forced leadership indefinitely.

Napoleon, Mussolini, Hitler, Sadam Hussein were examples of leadership by force. Their leadership passed. Leadership-by-consent of the followers is the only brand that will endure.

Men may follow the forced leadership temporarily, but they will not do so willingly.

The new brand of leadership will embrace the eleven factors of leadership described here, as well as some other factors. The man who makes these the basis of his leadership will find abundant opportunity to lead in any walk of life.

My sincere thanks to TEAM friends for this opportunity to put my views.

Regards,

Mugilan

TEAM – you can if we can.

“Your school played a role in your success. Would YOU like to play a role in its success?”

Could the school in India that you went to or some other school that you personally know use a little help? Join thousands of other Indians from all over the world who have helped their own schools in India and discover what an enjoyable experience it is.

Introducing TEAM

You may have heard of ASHA, AID-INDIA etc which help people in the US donate towards educational purposes in India. There is also a relatively unknown organization called TEAM (Team for Educational Activities in Motherland) which will let people donate towards a school of their choice in India. Also, unlike other organizations which collect donations and execute projects themselves, donors of TEAM have the opportunity to fully execute the project themselves, thus getting complete control over exactly how the donated money is spent.

How does this work?

TEAM members form groups and save a small amount (e.g., $10 a month) regularly for their school. Each month, one member of the group gets selected and awarded the money collected that month, which that member is responsible for spending on his/her school. This selection process goes on every month until all the members of the group are selected. Members get income tax deduction for the money they contributed and also any company match they receive is theirs to spend on their school.

How about helping for things other than schools?

Members can help their villages beyond schools through “Friends of Team” by which they can execute projects that helps in advancing rural life. For example, members can set up community centers in their villages where villagers can access information about agriculture, use a library and make use of medical camps.

How can I leverage the contribution by income tax deduction and company match?

Many companies match their employees’ donations to non-profits dollar for dollar. By this you can effectively double your financial contribution to your school. For example, if you donate $500 and your company matches $500, you can do a project of for up to $1000 on your school. If you are making use of income tax deduction, your effective cost may as little as $300 while your school benefits by $1000! As you can imagine, $1000 can make a big difference for a school that lacks even the basic necessities.

What are the benefits of joining TEAM?

First and foremost, members get to help their schools and villages of choice in India. By doing it through TEAM, members can benefit from US income tax deduction and also obtain company matching funds for improving their school in India. Members also meet in regular intervals for school selection, during which they get to socialize with other Indian families and watch or take part in free cultural events.
